Jobless Rate Down to 9.7%; 20,000 Jobs Lost in January
In its latest report on employment, the government said on
Friday that American employers shed 20,000 nonfarm jobs in
January and that job losses in 2009 were worse than
previously reported. Though the government’s survey of
households found a drop in the unemployment rate, to 9.7
percent in January from 10 percent in December, the new
figures raised concern that the recovering economy may be
slow to bring relief for workers.

Diamond Challenge Tip of the Week
by Charlie Wiegert
First Base
It starts with King Albert, the consensus number one pick in most leagues this year. And in the Diamond Challenge, you want him on your team. He’s the reason you save money at other positions, and he earns his keep. Plus, it’s fun to be able to tell people you have Albert Pujols on your team! It’s one of the reasons you play the Diamond Challenge, so don’t try to out think yourself! There are some other pricey home run options, but when you look at what you’ll get from Adrian Gonzalez (1330k), Joey Votto (1100k) and Kendry Morales (1170k), it’s not worth paying the higher salaries for Prince Fielder, Ryan Howard or Miguel Cabrera. Roster four of these first basemen and use two at DH, as you’ll get more bang for your buck than with any other position.
Over the next 8 weeks, the Godfather Of Fantasy Sports, Charlie Wiegert, is going to profile players that are worthy of consideration for your Diamond Challenge team this year. A different position will be examined each week. Enjoy and have a great season!
Diamond Challenge 1B Top Five
1. Albert Pujols, STL
2. Miguel Cabrera, DET
3. Prince Fielder, MLW
4. Ryan Howard, PHI
5. Mark Teixeira, NYY
Sleeper: Chris Davis, TEX
Bust: David Ortiz, BOS
