Why one would need to shop is a mystery in itself, not easily solved by the thoughts of a working man whose only desire is to be left alone, away from commerce, away from transactions. Potentially all secret police began as mystery shoppers, as a bizarre sort of training to take an oath of loyalty that they will not tell anyone that they shopped and that they would not harm any produce unless they felt their lives were in danger. Work for pleasure? What kind of pleasure is derived from working in secret?
